Sunday, June 25, 2006
At Taylor Farm Park, Norwalk, CT.
The Veterinary Oncology and
Hematology Center (VOHC) partnered with neighboring veterinary professionals to
raise pet health awareness with pet owners to ensure the vitality of their pet through the
“Healthy Pet Checklist”. Vets donated their time to discuss the general healthy
pet checklist
with pet owners.
WEBE 108, Connecticut’s Best Music Variety Station, broadcast live all day with
Ann Rondapierre.
The day honored Smokey and other
beloved pets via the “Memory Wall”, displaying photos/stories. The day’s
charitable component equally benefited the Animal Cancer Foundation, Paws,
and Adopt a Dog by raising more than $1,000! These organizations will receive
all funds from the day raised though sales of Smokey’s bandana, a raffle of a
variety of donated prizes and
requested donations for free food and drink.
Despite a brief but heavy rain shower during the afternoon, more than 300 people attended Smokey's Day and saw
Dancing Dogs, The Frisbee Flyers, agility demonstrations and the Norwalk K-9 corps demonstration. Mayor Moccia
proclaimed June 25 as "Smokey's Day" and presented Dr. Post with a formal proclamation
(see below).
A heartfelt "Thank You" to all who braved the rain to attend the inaugural Smokey's Day. Watch for announcements
for next year's Smokey's Day in Spring 2007.
