Mast Cell Tumors
Symptoms   DOGS: Reddish raised mass on the skin, or lump that feels like fatty tumor. Varies in appearance and size.
Likely Location / Spread   DOGS: Most occur on the limbs, trunk or genital area. Spread to lymph nodes, liver, spleen.
Treatment Options  DOGS: Surgically remove tumor. Use radiation and chemo for Grade II and III.
Treatment Side Effects   DOGS: Radiation: skin """"effects"""" like a mild sunburn. Chemotherapy: side effects are very mild.
Treatment Duration  DOGS: Chemotherapy weekly for 4 weeks; then every 2 weeks for 8 -12 treatment cycles.
Likely Outcome  DOGS: Good outlook. With therapy: Grade I and II can survive 5 years or more. Grade III can survive 1-2 years or more. No therapy: less than 6 months.
