Symptoms   CATS: Lameness. Swelling of joints. Weight loss. Increased salivation. Foul odor from the mouth.

DOGS: Breath odor. Lameness. Swelling of joints. Weight loss. Salivation.

Likely Location / Spread   CATS: Rapid local growth, slow spread. Often occurs at injection sites. Can reoccur.

DOGS: Slow spread, but can reoccur in same location. Aggressive removal recommended.

Treatment Options  CATS: Wide, deep surgical removal of mass; then radiation and chemotherapy.

DOGS: Wide, deep surgical removal of mass; then radiation and chemotherapy.

Treatment Side Effects   CATS: Various based upon how the cancer is being treated.

DOGS: Various based upon what treatment is being given.

Treatment Duration  CATS: Radiation therapy for 3 weeks. Chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 5 treatments.

DOGS: Radiation daily for 31/2 weeks or weekly for 4 weeks. Chemotherapy every 3 weeks.

Likely Outcome  CATS: No therapy: 5 months only. Surgery: 18 months Surgery, Radiation & Chemotherapy: 30 months

DOGS: Depends on location of the cancer and how early it is caught and treated.
